Curriculum Impact
At Westfield Primary School, we want every child to leave us with a broad, rich and secure body of knowledge, alongside the skills, confidence and character needed to thrive at the next stage of their education and in later life.
Our carefully sequenced curriculum enables children to know more, remember more and apply more. Through regular opportunities to revisit learning, make connections and deepen understanding, pupils develop fluency within and across subjects. By the end of each key stage, the vast majority of children demonstrate secure knowledge and understanding of the curriculum taught, with many achieving a deeper level of understanding and application.
Beyond academic success, pupils leave Westfield as confident, resilient and responsible young people who embody our school values. They understand their role within the local community and wider world and are equipped to make a positive contribution as active and responsible citizens.
Assessment is an integral part of teaching and learning. Formative assessment is used continuously within lessons to identify misconceptions, check understanding and inform next steps. Teachers adapt teaching in response to pupils' needs, providing timely feedback and support to ensure that all children make strong progress.
For pupils with SEND, assessment maintains the same high expectations whilst ensuring barriers to learning are removed. Through adaptive teaching, pre-teaching, carefully selected scaffolds and reasonable adjustments, pupils are supported to access the same ambitious curriculum as their peers. Assessment focuses on what pupils know, understand and can do, enabling every child to achieve success from their individual starting points.
We measure the impact of our curriculum through:

- Pupils' ability to recall, retain and apply substantive and disciplinary knowledge over time.
- Pupil voice, demonstrating enthusiasm for learning and the ability to talk confidently about what they know and remember.
